These achievements have recently been recognized with the club creating stronger links to Barnsley FC and their academy. Each team involved with the club has their own FA qualified coaches ranging from Level 1 through to UEFA B and all volunteers and parents involved with the club are fully CRB checked. North Gawber Colliery JFC prides itself on been a family club and its work in the community, giving children the opportunity to learn and play football whilst at the same time enjoy themselves and making new friends.
Our under 10 team are a close nit bunch with most of players just completing their 4th season together. The team itself started off at U7 level with only one team, but for the 2008/09 season we moved to the Charles Rice two team league and with that grew to a squad of 20 players. This first season presented both the players and management with a bit of a learning curve, but with a strong mid table finish and a semi final appearance in the League Cup it was one we over came together.
Confidence was running high at the beginning of the 2009/10 season with manager Kent Brownlie bringing in a few new players to strengthen the squad and after a bit of a slow start the results soon started to come. By the end of April we had completed a very successful league campaign finishing second scoring 135 goals and only conceding 45 in return. The icing on the cake though had to begetting to the Invitation Cup Final only losing out to a strong Thornes Juniors team by a goal scored in injury time of the second match.
Next season will produce more changes no more so than the move to 11-a-side but with the strong team spirit that we have built up there is no reason why we can not build on the progress we have made so far and grab that elusive piece of silverware.
